My friends, 5 years ago today, January 6th became one of those dates that will forever divide how Americans remember the recent past. Not just because of what happened that day — but because of what happened in the months that followed. Narratives hardened. Institutions closed ranks. And millions of Americans were told, in no uncertain terms, what they were allowed to believe.

Today’s Toddcast is not about re-litigating headlines or arguing over cable-news talking points. It’s about listening — really listening — to a story that many Americans have never been given the chance to hear in full.

Dan Morrissey joined me for a long-form conversation about his experience on January 6th and the chaos that followed. Dan is not a career activist. He’s not a politician. He didn’t go to Washington expecting history to find him. Yet what happened that day — and what happened after that day — dramatically reshaped his life in ways that still defy belief.

Dan explains how he entered the Capitol, what he witnessed inside, and why he never believed he was committing a crime. He then walks us through the aftermath: FBI contact, being swatted at airports, frozen assets, ruined credit, and a legal process that, in his telling, seemed far more interested in outcomes than evidence.

They’re not fighting me. They’re fighting the truth — and they’re not going to win.

Dan Morrissey

What makes Dan’s story especially remarkable is not just what he endured — but the stand he ultimately took. When given a presidential pardon, Dan refused it. Not out of pride. Not out of politics. But because accepting it would legitimize a conviction he says was built on judicial collusion and procedural fraud. In over two centuries of American history, very few people have ever rejected a presidential pardon. Dan did so knowing the cost full well.

This conversation raises uncomfortable questions. About due process. About prosecutorial power. About whether truth still matters when a narrative has already been chosen. And about what happens to ordinary citizens when the machinery of government decides they are expendable.

You may agree with Dan. You may disagree with him. But you cannot honestly listen to this episode and walk away believing that the full story of January 6 has been told.

Conservative, not bitter.

Todd Talk: January 6th: Truth, Accountability, and Media Narratives

My friends, remembering historical events matters when propaganda tries to hide the truth.

Five years ago today, January 6th, 2021 happened. Immediately, the Left and the media rushed to rebrand it as America’s second Pearl Harbor or 9/11. But that’s pure nonsense.

January 6th wasn’t an act of war or an attempt to overthrow the government. It was a protest that turned violent for some.

And if someone breaks the law, they should be held accountable — blindly, fairly, equally.

But wisdom teaches us that more than one thing can be true. Crimes can occur, and the aftermath can be politically weaponized.

Surveillance footage can be withheld. A political narrative enforced. Free speech punished. Due process ignored.

If people care about threats to our democracy, they should start by understanding the truth about January 6th.

Courage has a cost.

Dan Morrissey knows that better than most.

For standing up. For speaking truth. For refusing to bend the knee.

He has paid for it in courtrooms, legal bills, and relentless pressure that hasn’t let up. And it’s not over.

Dan didn’t ask for sympathy. He asked for action.

He even rejected a presidential pardon because he believes the truth matters more than convenience.

Dan has formally requested an independent special counsel to investigate his case.

Here’s how you can help.

First, call the White House and request an independent special counsel be appointed. It takes just a few minutes. You can use this script.

Second, if you’re able, support Dan financially as he continues fighting these legal battles. Freedom isn’t free, and neither is a defense.

And if you want to hear directly from Dan, read the article he recently wrote here.

If we say we believe in justice, due process, and standing with those who take the hits for telling the truth … here’s our chance to do just that.

Let’s show Dan Morrissey he’s not alone.
